Help! Does anyone know anything about McGrotty and Ludmilla, a play by Alasdair Gray? I am auditioning on Monday and don't know anything about this piece.

If some people need prompts that shouldn't be a problem.

I must admit that Jackie's idea is a good one, but the way our group works is well described by Bill. "If it ain't broke, do not try to fix it". I personally like listening to others' works which are within their experiences - for the focus is on the technique and not so much a themed plot. I am trying myself to get away from plot setting and into using my words more effectively.. and I learn by example! Thanks for the good suggestion anyway. We do have themed nights for the readers nights.

Ok, just a thought. On the one occasion I've been so far (plan to come along tomorrow with a short story) the ideas were great and the variety was immense. I just thought it wouldn't hurt to suggest a themed night.

As to Jackie's comment 'why not have everyone write a short story based on a theme.' Not a bad idea Jackie but this group is not a workshop per se. Everyone is developing their own work with their own individual goals. Some are already published and others are tweaking pieces through feedback to the group...getting ready to submit.

Welcome Andrew L.... do not worry, you come along and just absorb the literary atmosphere with a smile! Quite a big group this week, so I might just enter my twitter story in 55 words and no more.....

Alastair........ we do alternate writer's then reader's meet ups on alternate Tuesdays.... so tonight is a reader's one, where we all bring along something that has already been published... and next week, the 16th, is the fortnight when we bring something we created ourselves, to share with the rest of the group. First time attendees - just come along and enjoy...... we were all newbies ourselves!

Hi Andrew, Thanks for the note - I'll be sure to bring my keen ear and enthusiasm, though I might leave the reading until that first hurdle has been cleared!

Hi Matt. Just come along and check it out. Bring something to read if you like but it's not compulsory. There's always some folk reading and some folk not. We just have a chat through things as we go. Cheers Andrew

As a first time attendee - are there any words of advice that can be given by the old guard?
