Cheers for all your organising efforts lately!  Sorry you seem to have been getting some negative feedback from some people about our meetings...

As one of the "regulars"  I think the existing formula is spot on - it's been working really well for me anyhow, I've come on in leaps and bounds over the past year, and it's been great to get to know the work of the other regulars well and really get to grips with their work...

I think there's often a bit of confusion when new people join the group - maybe we need to clarify that we're not a creative writing workshop meeting but a meeting for writers who have existing projects on the go.  We have had pretty high numbers at the group lately though, so if some of the new folk want to try a different formula at the Mercat then I reckon that's a nice idea.  Several people had wanted more guidance with their writing so perhaps a workshop meeting with set tasks every week would suit them a lot better than the way we do things at the Waverley.  I was aware of about 4 other groups operating in Edinburgh so hopefully everyone can find a group they feel comfortable with.

I'll be opting for the dingy, murky abyss of maniacal ramblings and primeval prose that is upstairs at the Waverley on a tuesday night every time though.

Hiya

The idea is that you can now bring your own writing to read EVERY week, if you want.  Therefore there should be more of our own writing than ever before, but also a bit of reading from works that show us what we can aspire to.  It reflects the greater attendance at Writer meetups than at Reader meetups over the last couple of months.  I'm happy to change this format if it doesn't work, but lets give it a few weeks first.

That is the worst idea I've heard for a long time Andrew. It's supposed to be a writers group or at least it was. A place where WRITERS gather to discuss writing...it's not a book group.I can't believe you're so susceptable to some malcontents who have just joined or who seldom or indeed have never turn(ed) up for meetings. Catch a grip pal. All that's going to happen is that people who are either too lazy or incapable of producing anything from their own pathetic imaginations will just read out what they have no chance of emulating themselves. How is that going to motivate anybody to produce individual work of interest?

Hi all

Sorry for the absence of meetups over the last couple of weeks.  We are back!  Next week.. with a slightly new format.  Bring your own writing or bring someone's else work to read.... the choice is yours.

Cheers

Andrew
