This has been great entertainment!
I for one am not offering any opinions or suggestions, as I am one of those who has only attended once - and not because I didn't like it (or the toilets or p or fart smell or whatever else), but because I live in Perth and happened to be in Edin that day and unfortunately am not able to travel to Edin weekly to meet with these very great people *feeling sorry for myself* . I hope to be able to attend again, even if only now and then as I found the group really nice. An interesting mix of people with varying writing talents and opinions. I would encourage everyone to stick it out, as there is really much to gain. This is a great group.

Subject: Re: [writers-535] New Meetup: Edinburgh Writers Meetup - Tuesday June 8th I would just like to say two things - 1. As long as we still get to read out our work and receive feedback and inspiration from such a wide range of people, I'd have thought everyone would be happy. I don't see how this new format will hinder that. 2. People (mainly people I've never seen before) seem to be putting in their tuppence-worth about the venue being unclean and generally not nice enough. What do they want, perfectly starched linen and personal place settings? The Waverly has everything we need - it's quiet, it has character, and it has enough space so that everyone who turns up can get a seat. I'm sure they'd even let people bring baby wipes in if they feel that strongly. I'd also like to say how happy I am that the group is back on, because I feel I've become far more confident as a writer since I started coming a few months ago, and everyone I've met has been very charming in their own unique ways. Cheers for all your organising efforts lately! Sorry you seem to have been getting some negative feedback from some people about our meetings... As one of the "regulars" I think the existing formula is spot on - it's been working really well for me anyhow, I've come on in leaps and bounds over the past year, and it's been great to get to know the work of the other regulars well and really get to grips with their work... I think there's often a bit of confusion when new people join the group - maybe we need to clarify that we're not a creative writing workshop meeting but a meeting for writers who have existing projects on the go. We have had pretty high numbers at the group lately though, so if some of the new folk want to try a different formula at the Mercat then I reckon that's a nice idea. Several people had wanted more guidance with their writing so perhaps a workshop meeting with set tasks every week would suit them a lot better than the way we do things at the Waverley. I was aware of about 4 other groups operating in Edinburgh so hopefully everyone can find a group they feel comfortable with. I'll be opting for the dingy, murky abyss of maniacal ramblings and primeval prose that is upstairs at the Waverley on a tuesday night every time though.
